Does Barefoot Bay HOA and Barefoot Bay Recreation District have a gun policy for their volunteers and employees? I do not know. If not, it might be a prudent time to think about one.

Deputies: HOA president arrested for threatening men with gun
April 14, 2012 - ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- An HOA president is facing criminal charges for threatening a father and his son with a gun in an Orange County neighborhood.

Homeowner association could be sued in Martin case
April 11, 2012

SANFORD, Fla. (AP) -- If Trayvon Martin's family sues over his death, they might not target George Zimmerman but instead the homeowners association of the neighborhood where the shooting happened and Zimmerman lived.

No gun policy is needed here because the Bay, whether it be the BOT or the HOA, does not sponsor a neighborhood watch.

Didn't we once have a district manager that ran around with a gun at one time. Seems to me I heard that once but I could be mistaken. Probably would hurt to explore a policy.

Even if this had happened, or happens in the future, the Bay has no responsibility as the DM is not required to carry a gun while performing his/her duties.

It may be wise, though, to have a contract provision and employment policy denying employees the right to carry weapons while "on the clock".

Do You Think This Could "Possibly" be a LESSON LEARNED?

I don't know about a "lesson learned" but it seems like maybe a good wake up cal for all privatopia communities to do a little self examination especially on volunteers.

The difference is that Zimmerman was working for a neighborhood watch sponsored and sanctioned by the HOA, possibly making the HOA responsible for his actions.

Barefoot Bay does not sponsor or sanction a neighborhood watch, the BCSO does. I'm sure that the BCSO has all of it's bases covered when it comes to their liability for the actions of its Citizens Patrol.

A HOA president using a firearm is not acting under the requirements of his/her office or according to the orders of the HOA, therefore, the HOA has no responsibility in those actions.

I have a lot of faith in the Brevard Sheriff's COP's program so doubt that is much of a relative issue.

So what about other hoa or district sanctioned volunteers or even employees here, we have many do we not? Does it hurt to have a policy? Do we have a policy for code enforcers, arrc inspectors or bacci ball washers?

I do not know, just askin.....

Does the Bay require them to carry a gun while on duty?

The bay has nothing to do with them at all.. it is the Brevard County Sheriffs Department that is in charge and takes responsibility of them. Ask the Sheriff's department the requirements I am sure they can answer your questions instead of all of us guessing at them. :)

Robin, the question is not about the citizens patrol, but the other volunteers and employees of the Bay.

If I "anyone" is concerned, I would pay "STRICT" attention to what Robin has said.

Look... Don't make me get up.

The question has nothing to do with the Sheriff's Cops program.

The Bay employees or volunteers have never carried guns before.. I hope to God they don't start now..that would be horrible. Please call manager of Bay and ask him..he should be able to answer your questions.

every american should own a gun. but if not that is their choice. it is america after all. but no barefoot bay employee on duty or official in a official vehicle. just think what a disaster it would be if any employee had a gun.
